  5.     Boeing launched its new 777 jet with a supersonic deal last
  6. week when United Airlines became the first customer for the
  7. advanced twin-engine plane. In the largest purchase of
  8. commercial aircraft ever, United placed $22 billion worth of
  9. orders and options on 128 Boeing jets, including 68 777s. The
  10. deal will enable Boeing to mount full-scale production of its
  11. first new jetliner since it began selling its 757 and 767
  12. models in 1978.

  14.     The 777 will seat some 360 passengers and will have an
  15. extra-wide wingspan to give it a 4,800-mile range. The new jet
  16. will have optional fold-up wing tips that will enable it to
  17. park at existing airport gates.

  19.     The deal came one week after directors of UAL, United's
  20. parent company, rejected the latest union bid to acquire the
  21. airline. The order indicated that United was eager to expand
  22. its routes and put the takeover fight behind it.
